Once upon a time in Pixiland
Once upon a time, Sean and I were casually walking through the campus of U.C. Berkeley and were shocked to find that students were still using crowded, jumbled bulletin boards as a means of disseminating information on campus. Fliers were haphazardly stapled to the boards everywhere and it was hard to figure out where to look to find the most relevant information. The system was generally just a mess, which seemed ridiculous to us given the widespread use of convenient technology available to students today.
We started having conversations with students and other members of the community to figure out why this transition from messy bulletin boards to an organized online community hasn't occurred already and found that the options available were lacking. Sites to support advertising of items for sale, available services, and events in the community either didn't have a sense of community, felt unsafe for users, or didn't have a great user experience.
And thus, the idea for Pixiboard was born. Sean and I were inspired to add the magic back into commerce between locals in a safe and functional online community.
It has now been a year since our walk on U.C. Berkeley's campus and our lives have been busy preparing to bring our idea to life.We mashed up classified ads and bulletin boards into an electronic format to create Pixiboard, an online and visual marketplace that brings local buyers and sellers together.
Come check us out at pixiboard.com. Well its simply, Magic!
